MOVIE PIRACY

Movie Piracy

Good content finds its audience. True, the movie makers should understand this by simplifying the process of making their work public at reasonable prices. Say, a movie is released. Within 3 days, you come to know whether it’s a hit or miss. In both the conditions, it should be available to the audiences digitally at a lower price. This is not happening, hence the movie gets vulnerable to piracy.

If there is value to the creation, you get Buyers. But on
the contrary one big question arises, if the pirate start providing you value,
what will the creator do?

The main reasons you can’t kill movie piracy are :

1. One of the main reasons is digital media. It takes up no physical space, no money required for the transfer and it can be replicated infinitely.

2. Not every content of the movie is worth spending money and watching it in a multiplex. There is no hard and fast rule to buy something, which is being created with hard work, time and on a big budget. So viewers think’s, it’s a good idea to see the pirated version of the motion picture. The Thumb rule is, the market always decides the price for your product.

If there is value to the creation, you get Buyers. But on the contrary, one big question arises, if the pirate starts providing you value, what will the creator do?

3. You create something and sell it at a price which are not affordable to people who lives in economically underdeveloped countries. What they will do? Instead, use the pirated version of the movie.

4. Earlier the pirated movies were only available on the
pirated websites. Ever since the inception of the different technologies,  you can now watch it on your mobile via data
feed in the memory card.
A USB attached to the home screen can also bring
pirated movies home.

5.There are some apps which are
also capable of transferring pirated media on your phone and computer. Despite of the ban, there is still website available which can download new movies. For eg. Torrent websites
specially in connect with torrent apps.

6.Most importantly, the number of films released in a year is in huge quantity and apart from some movies which the viewer wants to see on the big screen, rest all the movies lose their importance. Of course, there are a lot of factors involved like, star value, goodwill, movies of newcomers, not a promising watch, sometimes without seeing a movie one can judge that it is not worth watching on big screen.

7.Most of the movies are overpriced and so are the actors. If the budget goes overboard than the ticket prices goes high in the initial weeks. This could be one of the reasons, why viewers don’t want to see a movie on the big screen and instead watch pirated versions

8.Movies these days are remakes . Movies with original content are coming out in less percentages. The psychology of the consumer changes here and can thus they don’t want to spend money on movie tickets. The burden of recovering the budget spent is one of the reasons. Movie studios want to earn maximum returns beyond profit.

The war against piracy is not new. In the 80s and 90s, it was video piracy and now it is digital piracy. Still, people download from torrent sites using virtual private networks. The user generally is at risk by using virtual private network, as it does not protect your privacy, and if you are using where cyber law is active then, you would land in legal trouble.

The Over The Top platform (OTT) which provide film and TV content via the internet managed to change the mind of the viewers who used to purchase the pirated version of movies. Platform like Netflix and Amazon are leading gamechanger in terms of quality and pricing.
