Both were epic and thrilling tournaments for India and thereafter both wins proved India’s metal to the whole cricketing world. Most importantly after 1983, the game of cricket got huge recognition in India, in terms of growth of cricket and its commercial aspects.
Based on the events and happenings, Indian Film Industry is making a Hindi Film on the Emphatic win of India under Kapil Dev Captaincy on June 25, 1983. The film titled, 83, is dedicated to all those players, who were part of the team and written History in the game of Cricket.
83 THE FILM, will feature Ranveer Singh playing the role of the Indian Captain,Kapil Dev.

- Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev was Captain for the 1983 world cup squad. Right arm fast bowler and batsman. Kapil is no doubt the top-class all-rounder of his times. It was Kapil’s belief and vision that led to India’s victory. He kept his cool throughout the tournament and motivated the team. With his brilliant knock of 183 not out against Zimbabwe in the league match which was abandoned for some reason, Kapil already gave a strong message to his teammates that with the right mindset and consistency, we can reach to the finals. Ranveer Singh is playing Kapil Dev’ s role. Ranveer is known for his versatility and challenging the odd. It’s not easy to get into the skin of the character, especially when playing someone whose mannerisms and persona is completely different. From the day Ranveer signed the movie, a section of people was saying that Ranveer do not look like Kapil Dev. But this guy is enjoying every bit of his craft. He has surprised everyone by posting his pic as Kapil Dev on twitter. And Yes, there’s a Resemblance. The expectations have raised and so the eyebrows.

Team India‘s most trusted all-rounder and a medium pace bowler with a unique style. Madan Lal has taken 3/32 in his 12 overs spell. Harrdy Sandhu will live his character on screen. Harrdy is a punjabi singer. His song “Soch” was remade for the 2016 Hindi Film, Airlift. 83 will be his first film as an actor.

The little master Sunil Gavaskar, right hand batsman and the superstar of the squad. Unfortunately got out on 2 runs, playing 12 balls in the final. Tahir Raj bhasin will play his Character. Tahir had acted in movies like, Mardani, Mantoo and Force 2. It will be challenging for him to display the class and style of Sunil Gavaskar.
- Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath
Son of the great Lala Amarnath, Mohinder aka Jimmy was an all-rounder player who was good with both batting and medium pace bowling. He played an innings of 26 runs off 80 balls and took 3 wickets as a bowler in the finals of the World cup. Was selected man of the match in both semi-finals and final. His role will be played by Saqib Salim popularly known for his role in web series, Rangbaaz. He worked as a model before beginning his film career.
- Ammy Virk as Balwinder Sandhu
Right arm medium paced bowler, Sandhu took the first wicket for India, bowled out west indies opener Gorden Greenidge. Ammy Virk will portray Balwinder Sandhu’s character. Ammy Virk is an actor and singer worked in various punjabi albums like Jattizm, Laung Laachi etc.

K.Srikkanth, Opener right hand batsman especially known for hitting the ball all over the ground. He was the highest run maker in finals i.e. 38 runs in 57 balls which helped India to put a fighting total of 183 on the board. Tamil actor Jeeva will play Srikkanth aka Chikka character. Jeeva has worked in films like David and in the remake of Hindi film,
- Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani
Syed Kirmani, the protector and keeper of the wicket was explosive lower order batsman. He never used to give his wicket early while batting. Awarded as a best wicket keeper of the tournament. Sahil khattar will be seen protecting Indian wickets in Kirmani’s Avatar.
Sahil is popular on YouTube and also hosted several TV Shows.
Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil
The middle order wall and all-rounder Sandip Patil played a superb innings of 27 off 29 balls, almost run on every ball in the finals. His own son, Chirag Patil will portray his character on screen. Chirag acted in Marathi films and tv series.
Adinath Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar
Dilip Vengsarkar was the most trusted right-hand batsman for India. He played only two matches in the tournament and retired hurt in a match against West Indies. Marathi film actor, Adinath Kotare will play Vengsarkar’s Role.
Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shastri
Slow left arm spinner and right-hand batsman, Ravi Shastri has taken 3 wickets in the world cup league match. He did not play the final in the interest of the team. Ravi Shastri, currently serving as Indian Cricket team Coach. Dhairya Karwa is an actor known for films like URI, the surgical strike will be seen as Ravi Shastri on screen.
Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad
Right hand batsman and offspring bowler, kirti, bowled out England’s Ian Botham in the semi-final match. Dinker Sharma will essay Kirti Azad’s role in 83, acted in Hotstar’s Delhi Crime and in some short films.
Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma
Right hand middle order batsman and good in bowling too. Sharma was in good form in the 1983 World Cup tournament. He contributed 240 runs in the tournament and had a big hand in taking his team to the finals by playing superb knock of 60 runs in the semis. Jatin Sarna will appear in Yashpal Sharma’s character. A theatre actor, Jatin worked in films like Meeruthiya Gangsters, Saat Uchakkey, Chor Chor Super Chor, and O Teri. He appeared in Sacred Games, an original Netflix series where he played Character of Gangster Bunti, which become popular.
Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny
Right hand fast bowler and batsman, bagged 19 wickets in the tournament which was the highest in the team. Nishant Dahiya will portray Roger’s character on screen. Nishant has worked in Hindi films like, Meri Pyari Bindu and the recent, Kedarnath.
R Badree as Sunil Valson
Left hand medium pace bowler and right-hand batsman, Valson did not play any match in the tournament, but was part of the team. R Badree, Malayalam film actor will play Sunil Valson on the celluloid.
Boman Irani as Farokh Engineer
Farokh engineer, the opening batsman and wicket keeper was the only Indian commentator during the world cup 83. His role will be essayed by Boman Irani. Boman is an Indian theatre and film actor and is quite an expert in playing character roles. To name a few , Boman has done remarkable work in Munnabhai series, 3 idiot’s and Ferrari ki sawari.

Manager of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team, Man Singh was responsible for team selection and glad that he picked up the right time for the world cup along with skipper Kapil Dev. Man Singh was the first to allowed player’s wives to accompany and even stay with them in the hotel room. Pankaj Tripathi will play Man Singh role. Pankaj is popular Hindi film actor. The recent film Stree and Amazon prime Mirzapur series were added feather in his acting journey.
